"I AM AN IMMIGRANT" series
With this series of paintings, the artist wants to simply do one thing: challenge the meaning of the word “Immigrant”.
When someone talks about immigrants, we, as society have a specific imagine of what and who an immigrant is, but we never think that the guy or girl next to us could be an immigrant too.
As an immigrant himself, the artist’s focus is to tell the stories of these people. The stories are of different origins.
The intent of the series it is to simply provide a voice to these people that are proud to be an immigrant, shine the light on the hostile environments that they sometimes face. But most of all this is a love letter to all immigrants.
The use of the layers after layers of oil painting, the transparent paper, the missing parts in the text are decisions that the artist took to reflect the delicate and personal stories.
This series of paintings that represent the immigrants started in Bristol, UK.
This project started in 2018, immigration was at the time, and still is, one of the hot topics of discussion.
These paintings aim to give a voice to these people through a different medium; art.
I started with interviewing the subject that I would draw and I talked about the similar as well as the different experiences that we had. The interviewing was a vital part for this series. Talking to the subjects was helpful in a good way to create an emotional connection with them which I used for my drawings.
